Painting a Feature Wall
Court-Hampton Painting has just finished painting a feature wall in this bathroom near Bloor Street and Christie Street in Toronto.
Before painting a feature wall our painters had some things to consider.
Which wall should you pick in a room for a feature wall or as they are also called an accent wall. In this case our painters chose the longest most unobstructed wall in the room because the other walls were not big enough to make an impact and had a window or medicine cabinet in the way. Also the owner of the home we were painting had specific art she wanted to hang on the feature wall so we needed room for the art.
For paint colour our painters chose Bird’s Egg 2051-60 by Benjamin Moore for the feature wall, and Decorators White CC-20 by Benjamin Moore for painting the remaining walls ceilings and trim. The ceilings and walls were painted with Benjamin Moore Aura Bath and Spa paint because we love it’s matte finish. The Bird’s Egg works well with the grey grout in the subway tile and compliments the Decorator’s White as well. Our painters had to consider the colouring in the art work as well before proceeding with painting the accent wall. The Bird’s Egg colour was pulled out of the art work that is going on the wall so that also worked well together.
Your painters really have to have a steady hand ( and ours do) to be able to pull off painting a feature wall. The brush lines or edging in lines have to be perfect because the feature wall colour is usually in stark contrast with the colours of the surrounding walls. Nothing stands out more than a poorly painted feature wall! Other popular places in the home for painting a accent wall include the wall above the fireplace in the living room, or behind the headboard in the bedroom. Don’t be shy with colour when you are thinking of painting a feature wall, remember you’re making a statement. Also wallpaper is a great choice for accent walls as they can add patterns and texture along with colour, check out our interior painting page for wallpapered feature walls.
